UNION BALLOTS: ARBITRATION COURT POLICY APPROVED
SYDNEY, This Day (Rec. 11 a.m.). —The Congress of the Australian Council of Trade Unions has approved a recommendation by the Federal Labour Advisory Committee for the policing of union ballots by the Arbitration Court. The committee recommended that the Arbitration Court should be given power to inquire into alleged irregularities in union elections and, if satisfied, that irregularities had taken place, the court should be given power to declare the election void and conduct a new ballot.
The council formulated a new code to control strikes, providing that a strike held without the sanction of the Council of Trade Unions would absolve the trade union movement from taking part or for affiliated unions to provide funds to help the strikers.
