South Africa Is Still Seeking Gold Price Rise
NEW YORK, September 21 (Rec. 11 a.m.).—The new sterling price of gold in no way altered South Africa’s claim for a higher world gold price, said Mr N. C. Havenga, South African Finance Minister,, today. Mr Havenga received an official telephone call from Washington before he sailed today, asking whether in view of the devaluation of the South African pound he still wished to pursue his claims for a higher world gold price. Mr Havenga’s answer was that South Africa wanted the executive directors of the International Monetary Fund to exaffiine the problem with expedition in accordance with the assurance given by the United State Secretary of the Treasury, Mr Snyder. '
