The Moscow radio, in its first comment on the devaluation of sterling, said today that the devaluation had caused “financial panic throughout Marshallised Europe.” The radio said the British Government had surrendered to the United States. It added ’ “The workers of Britain, France, and .the other Marshallised countries are now to work more and receive less. Armaments, far from being curtailed,, are to be increased. * Guns instead of butter—that is what; Wall Street’s orders virtually mean.” The Soviet morning newspapers announced, without comment, the devaluation of sterl- • ing The announcement was confined to 25 words of factual matter.—London, September 20.
