Forty Years A Bishop , Today the Primate of New Zealand (Archbishop West-Watson) will complete his fortieth year as a bishop.- “In spite of a terrible slump and a terrible war which have rather upset the even tenor of my. time here it has been a very happy time, because I have had every possible help and kindness,” said Archbishop WestWatson in an interview in Christchurch yesterday. The Archbishop came to New Zealand as Bishop of Christchurch, with his wife and five children, in 1926. He became Primate of New Zealand in 1940.
Nine Mile Ironsand Deposits Notice to ask the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr A. H. Nordmeyer) whether he would investigate the possibilities of using iron sand deposits at Nine Mile, near Runanga, to produce iron ore was given by Mr J. B. Kent (Government, Westland) in the House of Representatives yesterday. In a note to the question Mr Kent quoted the opinion of Mr Thomas Acland, reported in a mes r sage from London on September 13, on the similarity between the deposits at Nine Mile and those in Norway and Sweden, both of which countries had developed a technique for the extraction of iron ore and an export trade in vanadium.
