COAL PRODUCTION DOWN TODAY: MINERS ABSENT
Although-the Grey Valley miners made special arrangements to enable them to see ’ today’s international Rugby'League , match at Greymouth, in the direction of arranging to work only a six-hour shift, a more direct method was employed by- the men at the Liverpool and ' Strongman State mines and production there was very small, by normal standards. At the Liverpool mine this morning there were only about 50 men underground, as against the normal underground complement of 230. The result was that it was impossible to run the main haulage rope and any coal mined remained underground. The situation at the . Strongman mine was ■ similar, although there were sufficient men at work to run the haulage and some coal was produced for the day. ■
