L J Cattie On Roads Concern at the number of cattle on the roads was again expressed by members at a meeting last night of the Greymouth Chamber of Commerce. One membei- stated that in the last week there had been three instances where cattle had been hit “head on” and that damage to the cars had amounted to about £l4O. It was emphasised that such collisions could have dangerous results. Diesel Shunter Needed A’ decision to apply to the Railways Department for a diesel shunter to operate up and down'the Greymouth wharf, to replace the steam engines, was reached at a meeting of the Greymouth Chamber of Commerce last night. “It would be a big improvement to the front street of the town and a benefit to the town as far as cleanliness is concerned,” said the chairman, Mr R. J. Truman. Overseas Athletes “This is a wonderful chance to advertise the Coast. Apart from holding a big sports meeting we could take the visitors to the Glaciers and other places,” said Mr T. Blackie, at a meeting of the Greymouth Chamber of Commerce last night. Mr Blackie was asking the chamber to support a suggestion that athletes visiting New Zealand for the Empire Games next February should be asked to tour the Dominion after the games. Transport, he said, would be the big problem. The chamber intimated that it would give every assistance to the Greymouth Amateur Athletic Club in' getting the overseas athletes to visit the Coast. •
