U.S. Amateur Golf Title
All the British competitors have been eliminated from the United States amateur golf championship, which is being played on the Oakhill course at Rochester, New York. Three members of the British Walker Cup team, James Bruen, Gerald Micklem, and Ernest Millward, were beaten in the first round by little-known players. Two others, Max McCready and Ronnie White, were beaten in the second round, again by unknown Mayers. P. Lucas, Joseph Carr, and Kenneth Thom were beaten in the third round, and the last British competitor was eliminated when 19-year-old Arthur Perowne was beaten, 1 up, by William Campbell in the fourth round. Today’s star match was a third round game between Skee Riegel and Frank Stranahan, which Riegel won, 3 up and 2 to play—New York, August 31.
