BRITISH RESORT TO A SHOW OF FORCE IN GERMANY

BERLIN, September 1- (Rec. 11 a.m.). —British troops today occupied for an hour the Ruhr-Chemie synthetic oil plant at Oberhausen, where German workers drove off the dismantlers, yesterday. British officials in an ultimatum gave the Germans until noon to decide whether to permit the dismantling to be done peaceably. When the deadline passed, soldiers entered the plant in 12 armoured cars, armed with machine-guns, but were withdrawn after an hour’s occupation. This action is regarded as a show of force. In London, a British Foreign Orfice spokesman said that, although the Foreign Office was keeping a close watch on the position, it was at present leaving to the local regional commissioner the handling of the opposition to dismantling.
