AUCKLAND, This Day (PA.).— The possibility of jet aircraft being used in naval air forces was mentioned by Commander Banks, R.N., who arrived in Auckland by Skymaster this morning on holiday. Commander Banks, who is on loan, is attached to the Royal Australian Naval Air Station. He said that certain difficulties had to be overcome before jet ‘ aircraft could be made suitable for aircraft carriers, but it seemed certain that sea-based jet planes were on the way. If and when they were ready -for operational use, the Australian Navy could be expected to use them. Australia was building up its naval strength. The force was at present equipped mainly with Sea Furies and Fireflies.
