REVIEW OF WESTPORT TROTTING CLUB’S SUCCESSFUL YEAR

Meetings continued to be popular and successful from a financial viewpoint, stated the retiring president, Mr. H. Lovell, at the annual meet- > ing this week of the Westport Trot- ■ ting Club. The tote investments last : year, he stated, were a record for the ■ club. ; Mr Lovell paid a tribute to the .ex- ; cell ent work of Mr J. Martin as caretaker of the club, and also to the • combined Course Committee. In ■ spite of delays in work because of wet . weather, the course was. in fine order. Advice had been received, he said. ■ that the photo finish apparatus would be installed at an early date. The need foi- improvements to the ; stewards’ stand, with better facilities , for the secretary, and also for the . entertainment of visitors, was referred to by Mr Lovell. Enough funds, he stated, should have been accumulated to make the necessary improvements. The possibility of setting off a portion of the grandstand for members ' was mentioned by Mr E. Simonsen. Mr Lovell said that it was hoped to accommodate members when the stewards’ stand was extended. A recommendation from Mr N. Lamont that the committee consider building a ramp on the lawn to give patrons a better view of the races was accepted. Mr J. M. Robertson was re-elected .patron and Mr W. H.
