The following appointments weie announced by the Canterbury Education Board at its meeting m Christchurch yesterday:—Blaketown, Miss M. C. Cambridge; Cobden, Mr S. Alderson; Ruru, Mr B. R. Jordan. The following resignations were also received- Hokitika D.H., Mr F. Parks; Rotomanu, Miss C. F. Mallinsoh. The Rev. W. B. Beattie, curate at Holy Trinity Church, Greymouth, accompanied by Mrs Beattie, will leave on Monday morning for Nelson where Mr Beattie will be ordained into the priesthood on Wednesday by' the Bishop of Nelson, the Rt. Rev. Dr B. W Stephenson, in the Nelson Cathedral. The Rev. K. G. Aubrey, vicar of Greymouth, will give the ordination sermon. Mr and Mrs Beattie will be tendered a farewell by members of Holy Trinity Church after tomorrow evening’s service. Tributes to the work of Mr L. B. Rowley were paid by members of the Canterbury Education Board when they met in Christchurch yesterday to honour Mr Rowley, who is retirm D from the service. Mr Rowley was presented with a wristlet watch on behali of the board. The Acting-Driector of “Education (Mr A. F. McMurtrie) expressed the department’s apreciation of the service and co-operation Mr Rowley had given. A letter of appreciation was also received from the Minister of Education (Mr T. H. McCombs). Mr Rowley joined the board as a junior clerk in 1907. He was appointed secretary in 1935. Mr D. W. Coleman, Labour member for Gisborne, has been ordered by his medical adviser to take three weeks complete rest in bed. He is remaining in Wellington, and if he is well enough to do so, will return at the end of the rest period to his home. Mr Coleman intends to retire from political life at the end of this Parliament. He was last in the House of Representatives last Wednesday afternoon, when he submitted a report from a> select committee. The House, meanwhile, has granted him 11 days’ leave of absence because of ill-health.— (P.A.)
