'RUSSIANS WARLIKE IN INTENT,’ SAYS AMERICAN GENERAL
WASHINGTON, August 16.—Lieu-tenant-General Albert. Wedemeyer told the House Appropriations Committee today that Russia had 175 army divisions and between 12,000 and 15,000 military aircraft, and that she was building 500 tanks a month. “They don’t need those forces for internal security,” he added "They must have a project use for those materials, and they are warlike in their intent.” General Wedemeyer said that the United States must maintain powerful armed forces because of Russia’s military preparations. He said that the United States had “a few” intelligence agents operating inside Russia, but he added: “We don’t get very good intelligence reports from Russia. Our sources are very limited, but they are improving.” The committee approved the expenditure of nearly 11,500,000 dollars for improved radio facilities to overcome Russian attempts to jam Voice of America broadcasts.
