LAWN TENNIS CLUB CONCERNED AT DAMAGE BEING DONE BY VANDALS

While no definite decision was reached on means of combatting it, concern at the amount of damage being done to the club's courts and buildings by vandals, believed to be mainly young school-children, was expressed by members at a pre-annual meeting ot the Greymouth Lawn Tennis Club las evening. It was stated that the damage involved the club in an expenditure of aproximately £2O annually for repairs, and while measures had been taken to prevent the damage, they had proved ineffectual. It was suggested that notices prohibiting the public from using the courts as a thoroughfare be placed at various points. It was decided that the matter be referred to the annual meeting when decisions as to the action to be taken will be made. It was decided that the annual meeting would be held on September 5 and that the opening day of the club be held later in September. A working bee is to be arranged for September 3. Considerable discussion took place on the club’s financial position and it was decided that debentures be issued. It was also reported that the re-formation of the courts, being carried out at present, and improvements to the surroundings of the pavilion would be completed at an early date.
