MINES AT WALLSEND AND DOBSON IDLE: POWER FAILURE

A power failure, believed to have been caused by an opossum on the line, resulted in both the Wallsend and Dobson State mines being idle today. The failure occurred in the early hours of this morning and prevented the fans from being operated. The fault has now been remedied. No work was carried out on the day shift or the back shift, but the “dog watch” will be worked as usual. Miners from Greymouth, who are employed at the two mines, were met at the Greymouth station this morning and advised to return to their homes.
