Two Applicants Only For Farm Land At Kopara

Although four units were offered for permanent tenure, only two applications were received from ex-ser-vicemen by the Commissioner of Crown Lands at Hokitika, Mr H. M. Lawry, yesterday for farm land in the Kopara district/ At the ballot, which was held this afternoon, only one section was offered and the remaining three were withdrawn. The successful applicant was Mr F. H. Due, of Taihape. Applications for the land, which closed yesterday, were invited from ex-servicemen who had been graded A for mixed farming, sheep and cattle farming on the West Coast. The land, which is situated at Haupiri, 45 miles east of Greymouth, contains a total of 3445 acres. It has been sub-divided into four sections, each containing a dwelling, woolsheds and other outhouses. The whole area is estimated to be capable of carrying 1650 ewes, 390 hoggets and 470 run cattle. The land was formerly owned by Mr G. F. Drayton and other settlers.
