A lava plug about 70 yards across now fills the vent'in the crater of Mount Ngauruhoe from which the main lava flow came in the recent eruption. This was discovered by Mr P. Nilsson, a student on vacation from the New Zealand Missionary College Longburn, when he made late last week what he believed to be the first descent into the bottom of the crater Since the eruption.
