New Racecourse Inspector

Mr T, W. Allsop, of Hawera, Taranaki, has been appointed racecourse inspectoi' for the South Island in succession to Mr J. Torrance, who will retire on July 31.

Mr Allsop, who was a member of the detective force, resigned in March, 1947, and since then has been racecourse inspector in the North Island. He was stationed in Dunedin during the Exhibition and later was a member of the Auckland detective force. Odvaals The horse, Odvaals, which was forgiven by Mr Trowbridge. It is not is now owned by Nurse Brown, of the Grey Hospital, to whom it was given by Mr Trowbirdge. It is not now the property of the Nurses’ Riding Club. John o’ London X-rayed John o’ London, which suffered a leg injury when contesting a hurdle race at Nelson recently, was X-rayed at the Grey Hospital this- week, but no serious injury was revealed. John o’ London was struck by Becalm, which fell and was "killed. Well Related An interesting arrival at L. J. Ellis’s stable was a two-year-old filly by Balloch from. Valadone, dam of Kindergarten and Golden Souvenir. She is more of-the stocky type than her relatives and her appearance at present is evidence of being well cared for at the Poverty Bay stud of Mr E. Fitzgerald who has refused to put a price on her, . Jumping Events

The two jumping events al Washdyke tomorrow "have attracted strong fields and .should provide spectacular contests. The Tekapo Hurdles bears a very open appearance, especially as the proved candidates will. be opposed by several jumpers fresh to the game. These include two New Zealand Cup winners in Sir Garnish and Catterick Bridge, who have shaped satisfactorily in their education.
