Border Skirmish: Russians Seize British Soldiers

(Rec. 10 a.m.) BERLIN, April 25. Five British soldiers are in Russian hands following a skirmish on the zonal border, according to British Army headquarters. It was previously reported that only one soldier was being held captive.

The five soldiers, including a lieutenant, were on a routine border patrol when a Russian armed patrol opened fire on them and took them into custody. The British official spokesman said the British. troops did not return the Russian fire. Representations had been made to Russian headquarters at Potsdam for the release of the men.

An Associated Press correspondent at Coburg says: Russian troops seized three German police near the American zone border, after wounding one of them with a burst of machine-gun fire. A farmer saw the incident. He said that the Russians fired on the police without any warning. Negotiations have been started to obtain the release of the three men.
