MANILA SENATE SUSPENDS FORMER LEADER
(Rec. 11 a.m.) MANILA, April 25. The Philippine Senate, by a vote of 11 to 8, today suspended, the former Senate President, Mr Jose Avelino, for a year on charges of misconduct. Mr'Avelino was accused, of income tax evasion, unconstitutional use of his office for personal gain, advocating graft and corruption and tolerating election frauds. Mr Avelino is a rival of President Elpido Quirino for the Liberal Party Presidential nomination at the forthcoming election.
