MEMBERSHIP OF NEW UNION NOW 1000 STRONG

(P.AJ AUCKLAND, This Day. Counter-measures to deal with any possible “door crashing” attempt have been taken by the new Carpenters’ Society for a special meeting in the Town Hall tonight. A thorough alphabetical check will be made of those seeking admission and the doors will be manned by a specially-reinforced squad to bai' persons whose credentials do not tally with the membership list. The executive stated today that at tonight’s meeting the members will be given an opportunity to change the status of the society to a fully-fledged union.

Officials said the membership had grown to 1000. The move to protect tonight’s meeting, was made because they had heard of plans to wreck the organisation of the new union.
