MOTOR-CYCLING B. Wareing Wins West Coast Championship Cup
The principal event on the programme of races conducted at the Omoto track yesterday by the Greymouth Motor Cycle and Light Car Club, the AVest Coast championship was won by B. Wareing. who put up excellent performances in annexing the cud and also in reducing the lap record for 500 c.e. machines to 48 seconds.
A large crowd witnessed the racing, which, under perfect conditions, produced speed and excitement, "with comparatively few spills. H. Curtis, S. Gugum, and T. Longley were all successful during the day, Curtis securing the trophy given by Mr D. R. Dowell for the runner-up in the championship event. A. Ash again rode well and was unlucky to encounter ignition trouble in the big race. Results were as follows: — Race No. 1, 350 c.c. Handicap (five laps).—A. Ash, 1; S. Gugum, 2; B. Wareing, 3. Time. 4min 19sec. Rare No. 2, 500 c.c. Handicap (six laps).—G. Topp, 1; B. Wareing, 2; T. Longley, 3. Time, smin 9sec. .Race No. 3, West Coast Championship (eight laps).—B. Wareing, 1; H. Curtis, 2. These were the only riders to finish. Time, 7min 4 l-ssec. Consolation Handicap (six laps).— T. Longley, 1; H. Curtis, 2; S. Gugum, 3. Time, smin 35sec. Bicycle Handicap (one lap).—A. Walker, 1; M. Bergamini, 2. Time, lmin 22sec. , , Bicycle Handicap (two laps).—M. Bergamini, 1; K. Sutherland, 2. Time, 2min 14sec. Attempt on Lap Record.—B. Wareing, 500 c.c., time 48sec; A.
