Death Of Noted Linguist

A man whose colourful career included a remarkable transition from governor of Eastern Siberia in the days of the royal Russia to a postal division clerk in the General Post Office, Wellington, died in Wellington on Saturday at the age of 76. He was Major-General S. Merlin, one of the general military staff of the Czar of all the Russians, and a Wellington resident for many years.
