Auckland Dispute— DRIVERS SEEK REMOVAL OF BOYCOTT

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A demand for a special meeting to consider the rescinding of the resolution which was passed at the annual general meeting, imposing a boycott on certain firms, reached the officials of the Auckland Drivers’ Union today. The requisition resulted from a meeting this morning, convened by two members of the union. The meeting was attended by’ more than 500. general drivers. Neither the union secretary, Mr L. G. Matthews, nor the organiser, Mr F. Muller, attended. There was strong criticism of the actions of the union officials, after which a resolution was carried on the lines of a requisition, signed by at least 30 members of the union. The requisition must be given effect within seven days, otherwise any member can call a meeting. A small minority interjected throughout the meeting in Winstone’s yard, Symonds street, as speaker after speaker mounted a lorry used as a platform and addressed the drivers. When a division was taken there was a wholesale move of “moderates,” as they were styled, to one side of the yard. Only one isolated group of 10 drivers signified their opposition. The resolution was declared carried, “with none against and all for it.”
