Blaketown People Complain At ‘Lack Of Attention’

The alleged lack of attention to the needs of Blaketown were the subject of a number of complaints made at the annual meeting of the Blaketown-Preston Road Ratepayers’ and Citizens’ Association last evening. The meeting attracted the largest attendance on record, more than 70 being present. A strong protest against the use of Blaketown for a stock route was made in a resolution adopted by the meeting, which decided to, ask the Greymouth Borough Council to effect an immediate remedy. It was pointed out that recent incidents showed that residents had no protection or redress for either personal injury or property loss. . The association also decided to draw the attention to the dangerous state of the blackberry and lupin growing at the corners of Reid and Robinson streets and Reid and Swift streets. Paul; auditor, Mr H. Herring; executive committee, Messrs J. Cain, P. Affleck, F. McGirr, J. Henderson, W. Messenger, J. Walton/ P. Maughan, C. Richardson, and E. Mosley. There were no nominations for the 10 seats on the committee. A vote of thanks was accorded two retiring committee-men, Messrs R. Longstaff and W. Bond. It was reported that the collection being made in the suburb to finance the association was meeting with considerable success.
