Messrs McKeen, Langstone, Mason, Semple, Bodkin, Broadfoot, Carr, Chapman and, this year, Mr Nash. Five of these long-term M.P.'s are Ministers, another the Speaker. The seven members whose service will total 11 years each at the end of 1949, which would enable them to retire on £3OO a year, are the Minister of Rehabilitation, Mr Skinner, Mr McCombs, Parliamentary Under-Secretary To the Minister of Finance, and Messrs Doidge, Goosman, Kidd, T. L. McDonald, and Gordon (National). Mr McFarlane, junior Government Whip, will complete 10 years this year, and Mr Harker (National), nine. They complete the 35 who could retire on superannuation at the end of this Parliament, or in most cases, earlier. 22 Labour, 13 Opposition

Overall, the 35 who could retire on superannuation this year and who would be entitled to superannuation if they did not serve in the next Parliament—the 29th, commencing in 1950— comprise 22 Labour and 13 Opposition members.

There is a proviso that superannuation cannot be drawn until a retiring member reaches the age of 50, but this would affect only a few of those now eligible.
