Mrs E. E. Clemens, who has been visitin'-' her son, Mr N. E. Clemens, Greymouth, left today on her return to Christchurch. Senior-Sergeant W. Brown, who has been visiting Greymouth on annual leave, left today on his return to Auckland . „ Mrs A. B. Fitzgerald and Miss P. Fitzgerald, of. Blaketown, left this morning on a visit to Huntly and Auckland. Mr L. W. Bailey left this morning for Christchurch. Mr K. Jacobs left this morning on return to Christchurch. Mr J. Amputch, who holds a senior position in the Labour Department, Fiji, left Greymouth by this morning’s express for Christchurch. He is on a six month’s tour of New Zealand. Constable A. E. Jackson, of Greymouth, has received notice of transfer to Westport. Mr Justice Northcroft will arrive today to preside at a sitting of the Supreme Court on Monday. He will return to Christchurch on Thursday. Constable N. Rouse, formerly of Christchurch, commenced duty at Greymcuth yesterday, replacing Constable A. Wilsoir who was transferred to Hokitika recently. Mr W. P. Rodden, whose marriage to Miss Anne Worgan took place today, was met yesterday by the trainees at the Rehabilitation Carpentry School at Greymouth and presented with an electric toaster. Owing to an error in the transmission of the Press Association message it was wrongly stated on Wednesday that Mr W. H. Pearson, formerly of Greymouth, had been awarded a scholarship in arts. The winner of the scholarship was actually W. H. Paterson, of Canterbury University College. Mr W. F. Ellis, who has resigned from the position of storeman-ambulance driver at the Grey Hospital, aftei- five years' service, was bidden farewell by the hospital staff yesterday. A presentation of a wallet of notes was made by the house manager, Mr S. H. Sotield who paid tribute to Mr Ellis’s work and extended good wishes for his future. The matron, Miss N. Moffatt also spoke.

Convicted of wilfully damaging three mission boxes, Stephen Francis Llwelyn Neary, labourer, aged 46, stated by he police to have 52 previous convicions, was sentenced to two months’ mpnisonment at Hastings. “Accused ;ays he went into the church to pray, iut in this case I think it should be ■pelt prey,” said Detective-Sergeant L. 3. Revell.
