DELAY IN SETTING UP HOKITIKA PLUNKET BRANCH
Remits accepted for discussion at the general conference of the Plunket Society, to be held in Wellington on November 2 and 3, were considered at the monthly meeting of the Greymouth branch this week. It was decided to ask Miss M. Anderson, M.L.C., to represent the district at the conference.
A copy of a letter from the Dominion secretary to the Hokitika subbranch stating that the. nursing staff position made it impossible to set up a branch at Hokitika before February, 1949, was received. Disappointment was expressed by the meeting that the head office had not been able to fulfil its promise that the change-over would take place as from the end of September. The annual Rose Day appeal, to be held towards the end of November, was discussed. Final plans will be made at the annual meeting .on November 3.
It was agreed that delegates from the branch attend next week’s meeting of the newly-formed Ahaura sub-branch. Accounts passed for payment amounted to £7l Ils Id. Annual collections were handed in as follows:—Mesdames Kitchingham and Gillespie, £2l 4s 6d; Mrs Parfitt, £6 0s Id; Mesdames Grant and Fitzgerald, £lB 3s, including £l’ Is collected by Mrs McKnight in Preston road. The secretary, Greymouth Operatic Society, forwarded a further cheque for £9 2s, making a total of £lO9 2s from the production of “The New Moon.” Gratitude was expressed by members for the generous donation. The nurses’ report for September was as follows:—Birth notifications, 65; new cases, 43; visits to homes, 380; to rooms, babies 541, pre-school 55, adults 578; babies under supervision, 660.
