MUNRO WILL RIDE HOWE IN THE CAULFIELD CUP
MELBOURNE, October 15
Although the New Zealand horse Howe has increased in favour for the Caulfield Cup after his easy win m the Herbert Power Handicap at Caulfield last Saturday, his trainer, H. C. Nesbitt, expressed the opinion today that the horse has a better chance m the Melbourne Cup than in the Caulfield Cup. Many experienced racegoers support that view. They believe that the extra distance and the longer stretches at Flemington will suit Howe better than at Caulfield. Also, in the Melbourne Cup Howe will have more opportunity to settle down and unwind his brilliant finishing run. , . . In the Caulfield Cup there is always a great rush to obtain a good position early coming to the first turn, and this may be against Howe. H. Badger, rider of Howe in the Herbert Power Handicap, however, considers Howe will be very hard to beat in the Caulfield Cup. He was delighted with the horse’s performance, and expressed that opinion after he dismounted. He cannot ride Howe in the Cup as he is engaged for Beau Gem. D. Munro, one of the leading Sydney jockeys, has accepted the mount.
