RUSSIA CLAIMS SHARP RISE IN PRODUCTION
(Rec. 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, October 15. Russian production is now 26 per cent, higher than in 1940, according to the official Russian news agency, Tass, quoted by the Associated Press Moscow correspondent. The announcement says that during' the nine months of 1948 the total production of Soviet industry exceeded the average level of 1940 by 14 per cent. The September increase was 26 per cent, greater than in 1940. The Soviet Government’s goal for the first nine months of 1948 was exceeded by 6 per cent, and the target for the third quarter of 1948 by 7 per C 6 ’ ll - X XI Reuter says that, according to the Moscow radio, over 33,000,000 more acres of land were sown in 1948 than in 1947 and 25,000,000 more acres had up to now been harvested. Cattle stocks had increased .by 22 per cent, in the year.
