UNIONISTS DEMAND JUDGE’S DISMISSAL
SYDNEY, October 14. Mass meetings of ironworkers and members of the Federated Engine - drivers’ and Firemen’s Association in Newcastle demanded the removal of Mr Justice Cantor from' the State Industrial Commission. Officials of the ironworkers’ unions jvere instructed by the meetings to refuse to appear before Mr Justice Cantor. The resolutions expressed disgust with the new steel award recently announced by the full bench of the Industrial Commission. The Ironworkers’ Union campaigned five years for the removal of Mr Justice Cantor. The Port Kembla ironworkers demanded his dismissal in October, 1943, and his effigy was burnt in a demonstration at Woollongong after the steelworks strike at the end of-1945. The new steel award raises wages by 2s to 27s a week and lays down that reasonable overtime must be worked when required.
