Scholarships for Maoris
The Minister of Education (Mr T. H. McCombs), as chairman of the Ngarimu, V.C. and 28th Maori Battalion Scholarship Fund Board, announced yesterday that the Government had approved the payment of a subsidy of £14,000 on money already raised for the fund. The Minister said there had been a wide response to the appeal for donations to the fund, and there was £ 14,6,00 in hand. Further sums totalling £3OOO were expected soon. From the money now in hand, it was intended to provide scholarships for Maori pupils from the beginning of the next school year. Details of the scholarships would be announced soon. — (P.Aj
