BILLIARDS Record Break Of 540 Made By Greymouth Player
What is believed to be a record break for a New Zealand amateur billiards player was made by A. Twohill, at the Grand Billiards Ropm last evening. Twohill scored 540 before he failed, and is the first New Zealand amateur to make a break of over 500.
I Twohill previously held the New ' Zealand record break of 452, but this figure was subsequently exceeded by R. Carrick, of Auckland, who made 457 at Onehunga.
The Greymouth player was in good form last evening, and prior to iris record-breaking effort, had made breaks of 138 and 211. He was playing J. Clark, of Blackball, when he made his 540 break, which was all the more outstanding on account of the loss of the white ball when the score was 138. The next 402 were made by Twohill off the red ball solely, and only once was he -required, to pot it, so that 399 points came from losing hazards. Twohill showed’ exceptional control of the red ball to keep it returning below the centre pockets. Though he has yet to win a New ■ Zealand championship. Twohill this year made the biggest break at the championship tournament.
