OTAGO LIKELY TO HAVE SOUND TEAM NEXT YEAR
Otago Rugby enthusiasts were quite satisfied (as well they might be) with the inclusion of 10 players in the All Black team for South Africa, writes a southern correspondent. Almost immediately, however, amateur selectors were hard at work on the composition of next season’s Ranfurly Shield side. Uppermost in their thoughts was the question of whether the province would then be capable of withstanding Shield challengers. The general opinion is that Otago (although perhaps lacking the solidity of this year’s side) will be able to field a provincial team with the ability to withstand. A strong pack can. be assembled, and with Woodhouse, Haig, Botting, and Orr available, the nucleus of a sound backline is assured. This, together with, the fact that Vic Cavanagh and Charlie Saxton will again be behind the team (one of these men may be in South Africa), means that the challengers rwill: have’to be right on their toes to lift the Shield a+ Carisbrook;'
