Dynamiting Trout
Three men who were seen by a
Gisborne anglei’ dynamiting trout in the Waioeka river on March 27 were fined £lO each and costs by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Gisborne yesterday. William Robert Wilson, Kepa Wilson, and Pera Thompson admitted charges of using explosive to catch or destroy fish and taking trout by the use of explosives. The police prosecutor said the angler saw the three men near a river into which something was thrown. There was an explosion and trout were taken from the water. Counsel for the defendants said the men had been pig-hunting and could not resist trying to get the trout which they saw in the river.—-(P.A.)
