AERIAL WAR OF NERVES IS CHARGE
LONDON, Oct. 8.
Reuter’s Berlin correspondent says: “The Soviet authorities, disregarding the Western Powers’ oral protests on Thursday, again advised that large-scale Soviet air manoeuvres would be continued in the Allied corridors today.” An American spokesman said: “The Russians are just continuing their aerial war of nerves in the Allied corridors.” British and American representatives at the Berlin air safety centre made what is described as their strongest protest yet against Soviet infringements of the flight regulations in the Allied air corridors, arising out of the Russians’ air manoeuvres. United States representatives said that the Russian air activity appeared to be the largest since the United States and Britain began using the air corridors to supply Berlin. The British-controlled newspaper, Die Welt, reported that jet-propelled four-engined Soviet bombers . were taking part for the first time in the Russian Army’s autumn manoeuvres In Germany. Between 50 and 80 of them made a mock attack on the town of Erfurt. They bore a strong resemblance to the American Superfortress, according to an eye-witness.
