FEELING OF UNEASINESS IN BRITAIN
(Rec. 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, October 9
Mr Anthony Eden, addressing the Conservative Party conference, said:
“Most of us have felt deeply uneasy since the Government’s surrender to its own extremists on Ihe issue, of national service more than a year ago. Persona Fly. I prefer the foreign policy of Mr Ernest Devin to that of .Mr Shinwell.
“11 is not enough to say that we hate Communism. If we are to defeat it, we must believe fervently in our faith and in ourselves.
“It is in this spirit that we must send a message of confidence to Europe and, indeed,' to all the world, so that the lamp of liberty may be lit again and man may live in freedom and peace.” Mr Eden received a prolonged ovation, and the conference unanimous! v endorsed his statement.
