Howe To Be Sent To Australia For Spring Racing

[SPECIAL TO STAR] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Howe is booked to be sent to Auckland later this week on his way to Australia. His Trentham trainer, W. J. Bromley, who had him at Riccarton, will not be able .to make the trip with him and Howe will be in charge of the Trentham trainer, H. C. Nesbit who is also taking the following two-year-olds for Mr J. H. Marshall, owner of Howe: Birdman, by Pictavia from Lone Flier; Barry, by Marble Fawn from Biddy Machree; and Dowry, by Royal Chief from Lady Sincere. Lisheen has been under treatment for the past week for a bruised foot and the trouble has been overcome to such an extent that he is expected to be fit to race next Saturday. His stablemate, Double Light, who broke down badly in the Enfield Steeplechase, is not likely to race again for a long time. , A. E. Didham, who came to Riccaiton a fortnight ago with one of the biggest teams ever to travel to a Grand National meeting, has sent Foxchase, Triumphal, Granddaughter, Lecturer and Baffling back to Wingatui. , „ . The general standard ol jumping in the Grand National Hurdles was not good and it is a long time since so many fences were practically flattened in this event. , ' q Tremello, the winner of the Grand National Hurdles, was having only his sixth start in. a jumping race when he succeeded on Saturday. He is a six-year-old gelding by Ringmaster from Icing, by Limond from Aspic, an imported mare by Polymelus. He was bred by Mr G. M. Currie, .who raced his dam with some success, winning the Great Northern Oaks with her. Tremello was sold by Mr Currie as a yearling to Mr J. and the late Mr T. McMillan for 600 guineas, and for a good part ol his career was trained by G. W. New. About 18 months ago he joined L. Temperton’s stable, and all his hurdle racing has been done under his care. The Grand National Steeplechase winner, Brookby Song, injured his oil stifle while contesting the Grand National Hurdles last Saturday, and was still very sore yesterday. However it is not expected that he will take long to recover, and he left Riccarton yesterday on his reutrn home and will be given a well-earned spe 11. In addition to Brookby Song, other North Island horses that returned home last nisht were Corineus, Town Echo, Baljinabuoy, Town Survey, Moutoa Lord, and Tanga-ta-pai. The Lang Bian gelding, Harley, which was purchased by Mr A. Yarndley last week accompanied Corineus and lown E< De' : ert Trek was another casualty after the Grand National Hurdles. He was one of the last to finish and PUH" ed up very lame, and it transpired that he had broken down in his oft foreleg.
