SPORTING Riccarton Tracks Were Busy This Morning

lh(‘ Riccarton tracks were kept very busy this morning, there was not a great deal of serious galloping, this being confined mostly to horses which have had only one race or have not .yet appeared at the Grand National meeting. The trial grass was open and it provided firm and fast going. Some horses were worked on the plough.

Musselman and Good Shot were mates over five furlongs in lmin 2 3-ssec, the last half in 50sec. The former has come to hand well and should do good service in the new season.

Fastest Time of Morning

Magical was a neck in front of Banshee at the end of half a mile in 47 4-ssec, the fastest time of the morning over this distance. Magical will be" an interesting runner in the concluding event on Saturday. Maryburn, a stablem’ate of Magical an*d Musselman, was a xengtn in front of Irish Peach after reeling oft five furlongs in lmin 1 4-ssec, the last four in 48 4-ssec. Maryburn has come to hand well and should be a useful performer later in the season. Half-mile sprints were carried out by Beaugency in 49 4-ssec, Chord and Sleepy Song in 50 3-ssec, Bruce and Haughty Dick in 50 3-ssec, Glencona in front of King Karri in 51sec, Skyrider and Pimlico in 51 4-ssec, Chaffinch and Erinborough in 50 4-5 sec, Loch Lennox in 52 2-ssec, and Sequoia and Brixton in 52 2-ssec. Signal Officer was fully six lengths in front of The Rip over the final furlong of a six-furlong task in lmin 10 l-ssec, the last four in 49sec. Double Cross and Lord Theio followed over the same ground in lmin 17 2-ssec, the last four in 51sec. Flying Orders showed his usual ability in covering five fur|ongs in lmin 2 2-ssec, the last four in 49 2-ssec, finishing in front of Evening Star. Hormuz strode over seven furlongs in lmin 30 4-.ssec, the last four in 50 3-ssec, and Romantic and Blue Hussar followed in lmin 30sec, the last four in 51sec.

Fine Night in Form Fine Night was well clear of Bobby Dazzler at the conclusion of a mile in lmin 40 3-ssec, the second half in

51 2-ssec. Fine Night has only to race.' up to track form to be in the money this week. Disturbance strode over seven furlongs in lmin 32sec, Ihe last four in 51 3-ssec. Conclusion was a neck in front of Terminate at the end of six furlongs in lmin 20sec. Graeme and Screw Picket covered a mile in lmin 44 4-ssec, the second half in 52 2-ssec, Carry On accompanying them over the first five furlongs. Lisheen, Arctotis and Pageantry galloped a mile in lmin ’ 44sec, the first half in 51 3-ssec. Kirkellu and Love Letter, ran seven furlongs on one of the'inside tracks in lmin 17 4-ssec, the last four in 52sec, and Golden Amber covered six furlongs on the plough in lmin 17 4-ssec, the last four in 51 l-sseu Young Bob gave a dashing display over six hurdles and John o’ London followed over four hurdles without any mistakes. Real Night, and Forage negotiated a round of the inside steeplechase fences in a pleasing manner.
