COMMUNISTS IN AUSTRALIA MAY “SHUDDER”

“Australia must avoid intervention on the side of imperialism m Malaya,” said the general secretary of the Australian Communist Party, Mr Sharkey, addressing Newcastle Communists. “If Australia dares to stick her nose into the Malayan trouble and falls to the shameful level of a hangman, I shudder to think what will happen,” he said.
“The revolt in Malaya is a struggle for national independence. I am prepared to support the Communist Party in Malaya in its fight.” He described the Gurkha troops in Malaya as “cut-throats hired to continue their well-known work.” Colonel H. N. Gray, war-time commando and post-war inspectorgeneral of the Palestine police, who was recently appointed police commissioner for the Federation oi Malaya, arrived in Singapore today. With the support of Air Force and Armv commanders he will be responsible' for directing the British jungle campaign to eradicate terrorism. Colonel Grav was accompanied by 40 hand-picked Palestine policemen, who will act as instructors to volunteer special constables in Malaya.
