TONIGHT: "The Pirates of Montereii,” starring Maria. Montez and Rod Cameron. An exciting era of flame and fui y with sabres clashing for priceless plunder and the beauty of a woman s lips are revealed in “Pirates of Monterey, starring Maria Montez and Rod Cameron and showing at- the Opera House tonight. The story deals with the history of California in 1840 when Spanish royalists attempted to overthrow the Mexican regime just- prior to California’s becoming a part oi the United States. Miss Montez portrays a young Spanish woman travelling with her duenna. Tamara Shayne, from Mexico to Monterey, to meet her fiance an Army lieutenant. At the Pueblo of Los Angeles, she meets Cameron, an American smuggling guns to Monterey for the army garrison there. Cameron and his aide assist Maria and Tamara in getting to Santa Barbara and then continue to Monterey where Cameron is met by his old friend Reed. A love triangle develops .with sword play, an attack on the fort, and the capture of pirates who attempt a kidnapping. Regent Theatre TONIGHT: ‘-Fiesta,” starring Esther Williams, Cyd Charisse, Akim Tamiroff, Ricardo Monlalban. In this new musical “Fiesta” Esther Williams not only swims, sings, dances and romances—but she appears as a lady bull-fighter! Filmed almost in its entirety in Mexico, the picture unfolds a suspense-packed story of a girl who saves her brother's honour when she takes his place in the bull ring. It's an action-filled story of a back-ground of music, song and dancing gaiety. Riccardo Montalban, Mexico screen star is shown as Esther’s twin brother. John Carroll is her dashing lover. Cyd Charisse dances her way’ through an important part. Also featured are Akim Tamiroff, Mary Astor, Fortunio Bona nova and Hugo Haas.
