RUGBY FOOTBALL First Senior Grade Competition To Be Two Rounds
A decision that the senior Rugby competition, which will commence on Saturday be of two rounds was reached at the weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union last evening. The junior competition will bo of three rounds, while the third and fourth grade competitions will be of four rounds. The Westland Sub-union nominated three senior teams, Kiwi, Excelsior and St Mary’s, a fourth grade and a fifth-grade team in the Greymouth competitions. Three applications . for reinstatement from the sub-union were forwarded to the New Zealand Rugby Union. It was decided that, in the event of wet 'weather, the Greymouth and. Hokitika postponement committees would act independently of each other.
The Auckland Rugby Union advised that the union’s application for a match with the Auckland touring team was being considered. The Junior Advisory Board reported that the following weight limits had been fixed tentatively for the lower grades:—Fifth grade, under Bst 41bs; sixth grade, under 6st 71b; seventh grade, under sst 71b. It was also decided to’ request the Westland sub-union to send delegates to the next meeting of the board to discuss the inclusion of fourth and fifth grade teams in the Greymouth competitions. Mr H. Clifford was appointed junior selector. It was decided to give the usual donation to the St John Ambulance Brigade. Mr F. W. Baillie presided at the meeting and also present were Messrs W. Williams, J. Jackson, E. Todd, G. Ormandy, A. King, W. Shannan, M. R. Bunt, A. M. Jamieson, J. Webster, H. Clifford, S. McDonnell and O. McLean (acting secretary). Fixtures Arranged For Saturday The following fixtures have been arranged by the West Coast Rugby Union to be played on Saturday:— Senior. —Celtic v Blaketown, Rugby I Park No. 1, at 1.30 p.m. (Mr Stewart): Star v Excelsior, Rugby Park No. i, 3 p.m. (Mr Hogarth); Cobden v United. Rugby Park No. 2, 3 p.m. (Mr King); St Mary’s v Kiwi, at Hokitika. Junior.— Technical v Cobden, at Cobden, 3 p.m. (Mr Lindbom); Blaketown v Celtic, at Omoto, 1.30 p.m. (Mr Ferguson); Magpies v Star, Rugby Park No. 2, at 1.30 p.m. (Mr Thorburn). Third Grade.— Cobden v Celtic, at Omoto, 1.30 p.m. (Mr Wills); Blaketown v Technical, at Technical. 3 p.m. (Mr Fong). Fourth Grade. — Celtic v Technical, at Technical, 1.30 p.m. (Mr Bunt); Cobden v Blaketown, at Cobden, 1.30 p.m, (Mr Anderson). Fifth Grade.— Star v Celtic, Rugby Park No. 1, at 10 a.m. (Mr Agnew); Cobden v Technical, at Technical, 10 a.m. (Mr Johnston). Sixth Grade.— United v Blaketown, Rugby Park No. 2, 10 a.m. (Mr Cockburn); Celtic v Star, atTechnical, 11 a.m. (Mr Hogarth); Seventh Grade. — Celtic v Cobden, Rugby Park No. 1. 11 a.m. (Mr King); Star v Blaketown, Rugby Park No. 2, 11 a.m. (Mr Cockburn).
