CONSERVATIVE GAINS IN BRITISH DISTRICT ELECTIONS

LONDON, April 4. The Conservative Party’s headquarters in London claims a net gain of 108 seats so far in the British urban and rural district council elections, which began on Saturday against a net Labour loss oi 55 seats. Labour, Conservative, Communist, and Independent candidates competed for 3026 seats in more than 500 districts in the elections, which will continue until Tuesday. No official returns are available, but partial results compiled by the Conservative headquarters show Conservatives as winning 121 seats and losing 13, Labour gaining 40 seats and losing 95, and the Liberals gaining nine seats and losing eight. No figures were given for the Independents and the Communists.
