PEDANTIC MAY BE MORE THAN USEFUL JUMPER

Pedantic has started his hurdle racing for the season with conspicuous success with two wins at the Nelson meeting, and though these victories will mean that the Inflation gelding will start in more important events with a rise in weight he should continue to pay his way. He is a safe jumper and a good stayer and in R. P. Register’s hands he may go on to win an important hurdle race this winter. Pedantic is owned by Mr J. P. Low of Greymouth. He won only one race last season, the Kumara Handicap, of £2OO, at Omoto, in February, and over hurdles he ran second to Lunaria at Riccarton in April and third to the Raker and Ruling Moment _at Ashburton in June. It is in Pedantic’s favour for hurdle racing, that he is quite at home in heavy going.

Luck Continues Mr F. G. Hood, of Wellington, who won two prizes with one ticket, one of the prizes the first of £.2000, in the recent art union, started his horse, Terrific, at the Nelson meeting and the luck continued in his favour. Terrific won a division of the novice race on the first day and ran second again yesterday in a similar . class. Terrific is a two-year-old Finis colt and promises to keep the art union winner in the money. Profitable Horse Mr E. N. Fitzgerald sold Dark Flash last season at a low figure, and for his purchaser the gelding has won seven races and been placed five times. In the Waipukurau Cup he put in a late run to beat the Fitzgerald nominee, The Scotchman. Yesterday he won the main event at the Wairoa meeting. Dark Flash is trained by I. Tinsley, at one time in charge of Kindergarten, and is a five-year-old by Wincar.dine (sire of Kindergarten) from Our Bonnie.
