DRIVE AGAINST COMMUNISTS LEADS TO STRIKE IN INDIA

BOMBAY, April 3. Ten thousand workers in three textile mills in Bombay went on strike today as a protest against the arrest of Communist leaders yesterday. The police have arrested two more Communist leaders, bringing the total arrests in Bombay City to nine. . Tn Calcutta, a civil servants’ strike appears to be fizzling out in the face of the authorities’ firm' measures. Only 1000 persons continued the strike yesterday. Of 70 workers who began a stay-in hunger strike yesterday, more than 20 have changed their rninds, and the police are rounding up the others. A message from Simla says that Indian police, continuing their antiCommunist drive, arrested 69 persons in East Punjab. The Prime Minister of Burma (Thakin Nu) and other Ministers cancelled night engagements after the police had advised them against leaving their homes after dark because of a Communist threat to overthrow the Government. . . The police are closely examining motor traffic entering Rangoon.
