REEFTON Improved Coal Output At District Mines

(0.C.) REEFTON, This Day. Reefton district coal mines are maintaining improved production and last week 2285 tons were consigned from the Reefton station. This was a higher figure than the 1947 tonnage in the corresponding week. The steady improvement in the output of the mines is shown in the tonnages lor 1947 compared with these of this year. In January and February of last yeai- 14,000 tons of coal were consigned from the Reefton station, and in the fir.st two weeks in March, 1947, 4204 tons were /ccnsiigned. This year in January and February consignments totalled 18,843 tons, and for the first two weeks in March the tonnage was 4713. In 1947 Garvey’s Creek mine was not in production until later in the year, but the present tonnage from this area accounts for only 300 tons a week, so that there has been an overall improvement in the output from almost all the other mines.
