SPORTING Omoto Trainer Has Won 23 Races This Season
The successful Omoto trainer C. J. Walsh added to his impressive record this season by leading in four winners at the Westport Jockey Club’s meeting, bringing his total number of winners for the season to date to 23 and one dead heat. Walsh had six horses at the meeting, and his winners were Palaboa (twice) Chellow Dene, and Royal Tor. In addition to the wins the team also collected three seconds and two thirds. The Greymouth jockey H. Phillips was associated with each of Walsh s winners.
The double winner Palaboa and Chellow Dene who won the open sprint yesterday are owned by Mr 3. Trowbridge, of Greymouth, who is the principal patron of Walsh’s stable. Chellow Dene is not at the improving stage, but Palaboa won very attractively on each day ar Westport and the three-year-old daughter of Man’s Pal and Cornel may go on to much better class. Mr Trowbridge is also the owner oi tne maiden Elskar, a five-year-old mare by Sporting Blood. Elskar ran third in the novice race on the first nay and third in similar company yestevdsy Royal Tor, who showed a return to
her best form in running second on the fitst day and winning yesterday, was bred arid is owned by Mr W. Sitewart, of Kuiriara. She was educated arid has been trained throughout her career by Walsh. Maka Maka, who recorded a second at Westport on the first day, was having his first start since being trained by Walsh; The Bulandshar—Pakit, ere three-year-old was formerly trained by L. J. Ellis, who handed him to Walsh after the recent Hokitika meeting. Maka Maka is owned by Messrs P. C. Webb and G. R. Hunter, but so far he has been a disappointment. He raced better for Walsh than he did for Ellis, and he may yet live up to his fashionable breeding.
