LAWN TENNIS BROMWICH REFUSED TO TRAVEL BY AIR
(Recd. 11.35 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day.
Bromwich was not chosen in the Australian Davis Cup team because he refused to travel by air. In a letter to ’the selectors he stated: “On no condition will I fly. I regret to say I will not be available for this year’s learn.” Earlier, Bromwich explained that air travel made him very sick and left him in a listless condition.
Bromwich and a former Davis Cup player, Hcpman, express disappointment at the exclusion of the promising young Victorian, Sedgman. They say he is showing great improvement and is already in world class as a doubles player, whereas the selected team has no strong doubles combination.
