Ministerial

The Prime Minister (Mi’ P. Fraser) will arrive in Christchurch today, and tonight will attend a meeting of the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee, which will discuss recent events in the carpenters’ dispute. With Mr Fraser at the meeting in the Trades Hall will be the Minister of Labour (Mr A. McLagan).

Mr and Mrs A. C. Turtill left today on theii’ return to Hamilton. Mi’ and Mrs G. Thrower left today on their return to Wellington. Mr H. Hutchinson left today on a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs R. F. Croziei’ left by this morning’s express on return to Tima ru.

Mr C, Corrin was a passenger on this morning’s express for Christchurch. The nomination of Major-General H K. Kippenberger lor the office of president of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association will be made by the Rangiora branch of the association. Guests at the Albion Hotel include: Mr and Mrs Shaw (Invercargill), Misses Gow, Hight, J. Bust, Mesdames Melbourne, Mosseri, Messrs King, Hight, J. Mundy, A. White, E. Wardrop. A. Harrison, W. Greenaway, Mr and Mrs Young, Mr and Mrs Stewart, Mr and Mrs Whitta, Mr and Mrs A. G. Campbell. (Christchurch), Mrs Alexander (Whakatane). Mr A. D. Bayfield will retire from the position of manager ' for New Zealand for the Federal Steam Navigation Company on March 31 after nearly 42 years in the service of the company. He joined the staff on July 1, 1906. On March 1, 1934, he was appointed manager for New Zealand for the company. Bayfield is wellknown throughout New Zealand as an administrator of sport. A champion, oarsman in 1904, he has been a member of the council of New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association for some 40 years. He has also had a long connection with Rugby Union football, and the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association. Mr T. S. Marchington, D.S.C., R.D., R.N.R., assistant manager for New Zealand will succeed Mr Bayfield in the senior position in the Federal Steam Navigation Company. —(P.A.)
