SHORT OF PETROL, VICAR MAY SUSPEND ACTIVITY
(P.A.) GISBORNE, This Day. Having already exhausted ms month’s petrol ration of 25 gallons for parish services, the vicar of Waiporo Bay, the Rev. W. G. Bird has notified his parishioners that unless the oil fuel controller grants additional petrol his activities will have to be suspended. These include religious instruction in the schools, baptisms, hospital visits, sick and deathbed calls, funerals and weddings. It will also be necessary to curtail church services. It is stated that the quotas lor country users of petrol include allowances of 15 gallons monthly for irnjoi l organisers and secretaries of. political organisations. Country clergymen receive 25 gallons on the same basis as commercial travellers and salesmen. Country members of Parliament receive 30 gallons and country doctors 50 gallons.
