REEFTON REGULAR COLLECTION TO BE MADE TO ASSIST BRITAIN

(0.C.) REEFTON, This,.Day. The election of a committee to organise a regular collection system in Reeftoh, and to seek the help of residents of Cronadun, Waiuta, Ikamatua and Inangahua Junction in the district Food-for-Britain campaign, was decided at a public meeting. The following were elected to the committee:—Messrs J. J. Coghlan, F. W. Archer, P. Salmon (secretary), Mesdames A. Hardie and J. Eager. Representatives of the R.S.A. and Waiuta, Cronadun, Ikamatua and.lhangahua Junction will be added to the committee. •• , The county chairman (Mr J. J. Coghlan) presided, and the attendance was large,.some 10 organisations being represented. The chairman explained the steps that had been taken at a previous meeting, and suggested that among the long-term plans consideration should be given to the clearing of land and the increasing of production in the district.

Mr F. W. Archer urged, that the fullest support of any organisation set up be given to the R.S.A. scheme. He thought’ it would be a good. plan to adopt a system of regular collections in Reefton, and zone the town off for collectors, j The Reefton , Trotting Club had promised a donation of £5 per month for six months. Mrs A. Hardie said that help would be given at Waiuta. Mr W. J. Jefferies (schools’ representative) suggested that all district schools be asked to help in the campaign. A donation of Id per week from each pupil would soon raise a useful sum.

After a lengthy discussion the decision to form a committee was made and the committee was elected. It was resolved that the R.S.A. gift-parcel scheme have first call on any funds collected. TENNIS CLUB MEETING

The report of the year’s activities presented to the annual meeting- of the Tennis Club showed that the year had been successful and the balance sheet showed that the club was in a sound position. The following officers were elected: President, Mr E. Elliston; vicepresidents, Messrs A. Lulham and F. Archer; club captain, the Rev Father Fletcher; treasurer, Mr B. Cook; secretary, Rev Father Kirby; auditor, Mr T. H. Lee, juhr., committee, Mesdames Chambers and Menzies, Misses J. Archer, N. Simmis, E. Coghlan, J. Duff, Messrs Chambers, J. Gibeleni, D. Cartwright, A. Little, N. Coghlan, A. Archer; groundsman, Mr E. Elliston.

It was decided to open the season on November 1.

The following new members were elected: —M’rs' Menzies, Dr C. A. Heaphy, Messrs G. Wilson, W. Gorkoran, R. Conaghan. PERSONALS Mr and Mrs I. Duff, Christchurch, are visiting relatives at Reeftori, . Mr D. Latham, of Christchurch, is visiting his parents. Mr R. S. D. Kearns, Christchurch, is visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs Kearns.
